Jennifer Garner was born on April 17, 1972, at Houston, Texas but was raised in Charleston, West Virginia. Her dad, William John Garner, was a chemical engineer at Union Carbide. Patricia Ann Garner, the mother of Patricia Ann, taught at the local college. In order to follow in the footsteps of her father, she graduated with an engineering degree in chemical science. To pursue her acting dream, she decided to move to New York and try her attempt at acting in Hollywood. In addition to appearing in Broadway shows, she also was a waitress at an adjacent restaurant. She was in a minor part in the film "Felicity" (where she first came into contact with Scott Foley). Garner was first seen in Alias which is an action-thriller. Her debut part was in the acclaimed love story 13 Going on 30. In it she played the young woman trapped within a 30years old body. Garner picked Gary Winick as the director of the film. They continued searching for roles until Winick's passing in 2011. Garner, who was designated as an ambassador for artists with Save the Children U.S.A. for 2009, played an integral role in the group. The program focuses on literacy, nutrition and early education. From 2014 onwards, Garner has been a participant on the board of trustees for this group, promoting early learning for children. Garner is an ambassador for the Early Steps to School Success Program. She coaches parents on how to best help their children to learn.
